Relieve care teams · Increase safety

Vital signs and fall detection — without overloading care staff.

Ethical Saving combines affordable smartwatches with radio-based room sensing into an offline-capable monitoring system for nursing homes, hospitals and emergency services. Stored locally, privacy-compliant, affordable.

The problem

Too few staff, too little oversight — especially at night.

Care facilities and wards work at their limit. Falls go unnoticed, vital signs are only checked occasionally, and valuable information is lost in the handover from emergency services to the hospital.

~1.8 M
people in residential or outpatient care in Germany (Federal Statistical Office, Care Statistics 2021)
> 30 %
of people over 65 fall at least once a year (WHO, Falls Fact Sheet)
~115,000
vacancies / skills gap in elderly and hospital care (order of magnitude, German Federal Employment Agency / Ministry of Health)
The solution

One system, three building blocks.

Wearable vital signs and wearable-free room sensing — brought together on a local server inside the facility.

Smartwatch layer

Low-cost wristbands capture heart rate, SpO₂ and movement. A plugin architecture supports different models in a vendor-neutral way — no lock-in.

📶

WiFi-CSI sensing

From the reflections of existing WiFi signals the system detects presence, movement and falls — with no wearable on the body.

🖥️

Local server

All data converges on a small appliance inside the facility. Offline-first, no cloud requirement, full control of the data.

How it works

From sensor to caregiver — in seconds.

1

Capture

The smartwatch measures vital signs; WiFi signals reveal movement and presence patterns in the room.

2

Aggregate

One ESP32-S3 radio bridge per room reads the watch over Bluetooth and forwards everything via WiFi.

3

Analyse

The local server stores data, detects anomalies and raises a notification when needed.

4

Notify

Care staff see each resident's status in the dashboard and receive hints — no diagnosis, no treatment decision.

Architecture at a glance

From the wrist to the caregiver.

Four layers, a clear data flow — encrypted, local, with no cloud requirement.

Staying honest

What radio sensing can do — and what it can't.

We only promise what the technology reliably delivers today. Transparency is part of our mission.

Included in the MVP

  • Detect presence in the room
  • Distinguish movement / stillness
  • Report suspected falls as a hint
  • Show smartwatch vital signs (HR, SpO₂)

Not in MVP / research

  • Breathing or heart rate via radio alone (research roadmap)
  • Medical diagnoses of any kind
  • Treatment or medication decisions
  • A replacement for clinical or nursing judgement
Context: Ethical Saving deliberately starts as a comfort and wellness notification system. A regulatory path toward a medical device (EU MDR, Class IIa) is planned as a later stage — see Technology & regulation.
Who it's for

Three settings, one system.

🏠

Nursing & care homes

Night-time fall alerts and continuous presence detection relieve staff and increase resident safety.

🏥

Hospitals

More continuous vital monitoring on general wards, without wiring up every patient permanently.

🚑

Emergency services

Capture vital signs from first contact and pass them through seamlessly at hospital handover — closing the handover gap.

Privacy & impact

Data stays in the house. Impact stays with people.

As a non-profit company we measure ourselves not by returns but by relief for care staff and quality of life for older people. Surpluses flow back, in line with our mission, into development and into serving non-profit providers.

  • GDPR-compliant, local storage, pseudonymisation
  • Role and permission system (care, physician, admin)
  • Encryption of data at rest and in transit
  • Offline operation — no cloud requirement

Funding & partners

We rely on public funding, foundations and impact capital — not on classic venture capital with exit expectations.
